Prayer Requests
Jesus said, in Matthew 18:19–20, “Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. 20–For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.” I believe that you and I are spiritually gathered together at this site in His name, and if we agree on anything and ask in prayer, He will answer our prayer.I believe God only gives us the things that are good for us. It is ridiculous to think that He will give us everything we ask for. If He did, we would pray for the wrong reasons. I believe that He always answers our prayers but not necessarily the way we want Him to. For God to answer prayer and give us victory over things, it must be our will as much as it is God's. I have learned that proper mechanics are not as necessity for private prayer, but a well thought out prayer, even written prayer, can be more advantageous to the worshiper during worship.
I believe prayer changes me, the circumstances around me, and it influences God. I have learned that God has ordained that his plan for the world will come to pass without prayer, but He wants us actively involved in His plan. Prayer is not easy and it takes commitment and effort to be effective in our prayer life. The reason we fall short in our prayer life is because it is hard work, and one has to be disciplined to pray.
The most helpful thing that I learned in my study of prayer is the acronym ACTS. I had some difficulty standing, gathering my thoughts, and praying in and for a congregation. I have still not mastered public prayer, but this is helping my confidence. I learned that in praying in Adoration for God, with Confession, Thanks, and Supplication, we should always remember the cross and pray with a vertical and horizontal attitude. An attitude that God is great, God is good, and God is near as reflected in the Trinity through the office of His Holy Spirit.
It was good for me to find out that writing a prayer in advance, is not necessarily a bad thing to do. It helped me to know that preachers do write out prayers, not to be able to give an elaborate prayer before the congregation but to be able to include all prayer requests of the people and not forget individuals in need of prayer because of crises in their lives. It would be more damaging for a member to have confidence in your pray, have a need, and be forgotten during the service. A carefully thought out pray communicates what the heart feels, and the mind organizes it. There are some great written prayers of the church by famous individuals that express praise through; Adoration, Confession, Thanks, and supplication. Prayers such as these can be used over and over again if they are used with the right motive and attitude of the heart. I learned that prayer and fasting are most often done for spiritual food to discipline the body or giving God priority over something in your life for the pleasure of having more time with Him, and it pleases God and enables his Spirit to move upon us with power. I think that in fasting, we can see the strength of God in our weakness. Fasting is important because like prayer it takes discipline. Lastly, I learned that prayers can also be sung. They communicate our praise through adoration, lamentation, confession, thankfulness, and honor to a God who answers prayer for His people.

Adam was born and raised in Burlington, NC and went to SWU from 1999-2003. He has worked at Hayworth Wesleyan for 2.5 years as the Student Ministries Pastor. He has been on several short term missions trips and God used those to burden his heart for unreached people of the world. He says that there are many people who die each day without the loving knowledge of Jesus Christ, however, most of them never even have the chance to hear about that love. That is where his burden lies, so he is going to the ones that will never hear of the real love of Christ. He will be going to Bosnia to work with World
Hope International. WHI is a relief organization that provides a lot for the people of Bosnia. Life Verse: "It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known...." (Romans 15:20).
If supporting Adam financially is difficult, I believe we should be willing to lift him up to Christ in prayer for the sake of many people in Bosnia. Let's pray that he leads many to our Savior, Jesus Christ.
