In A.D. 325, after years of battling false teaching and heresies, the Christian leaders of that day gathered together in the city of Nicaea (Turkey today) to put the truth of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection into a simple compact statement. It is called theNicene Creed.
- The earliest creed, the Apostle's Creed (about A.D. 100), outlined the basic doctrines of the church against early heresies.
- The Nicene Creed (A.D. 325) was a more detailed summary of beliefs created to help Christians determine the dividing line between truth and error.
- Later, the Chalcedonian Creed (A.D. 451) defended the nature of Jesus from newer heresies, many of which are still around today.
