Paul's carefully chosen words to the Ephesians were, "By grace you have been saved through faith." In this qualifying phrase, he reminds us that God comes only where He is invited. The one who wants us to share the happiness of His eternal family knocks gently at the door of our hearts, waiting for us to welcome Him into our lives (John 1:12). So the gospel says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).
