James 1:2; Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,

James 1:3; because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.

James 1:4; Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

James 1:5; If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

James 1:6; But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

James 1:7; That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord;

James 1:8; he is a double–minded man, unstable in all he does.

James 1:13; When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;

James 1:17; Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

James 1:19; My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,

James 1:20; for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.

James 1:26; If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.

James 1:27; Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

James 2:13; because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment!

James 2:14; What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?

James 2:15; Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food.

James 2:16; If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?

James 2:17; In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

James 2:18; But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.

James 2:19; You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.

James 2:20; You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?

James 2:21; Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?

James 2:22; You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.

James 2:23; And the scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness, and he was called God’s friend.

James 2:24; You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.

James 2:25; In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?

James 2:26; As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

James 3:14; But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.

James 3:15; Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil.

James 3:16; For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.

James 3:17; But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace–loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

James 3:18; Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.

James 4:1; What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you?

James 4:2; You want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God.

James 4:3; When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.

James 4:4; You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.

James 4:5; Or do you think Scripture says without reason that the spirit he caused to live in us envies intensely?

James 4:6; But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

James 4:7; Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

James 4:8; Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double–minded.

James 4:9; Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom.

James 4:10; Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

James 4:11; Brothers, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against his brother or judges him speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it.

James 4:12; There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you who are you to judge your neighbor?

James 4:14; Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

James 5:8; You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.

James 5:9; Don’t grumble against each other, brothers, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!

James 5:11; As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

James 5:13; Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise.

James 5:14; Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.

James 5:15; And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.

James 5:16; Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

James 5:19; My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back,

James 5:20; remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins.

1 Peter 1:2; who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.

1 Peter 1:3; Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

1 Peter 1:6; In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.

1 Peter 1:7; These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

1 Peter 1:8; Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,

1 Peter 1:13; Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self–controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.

1 Peter 1:14; As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.

1 Peter 1:15; But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;

1 Peter 1:16; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

1 Peter 1:17; Since you call on a Father who judges each man’s work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear.

1 Peter 1:18; For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers,

1 Peter 1:19; but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

1 Peter 1:20; He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.

1 Peter 1:21; Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.

1 Peter 1:22; Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart.

1 Peter 1:23; For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

1 Peter 1:24; For, “All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall,

1 Peter 1:25; but the word of the Lord stands forever.” And this is the word that was preached to you.

1 Peter 2:2; Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,

1 Peter 2:5; you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 2:9; But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

1 Peter 2:10; Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

1 Peter 2:18; Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh.

1 Peter 2:19; For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God.

1 Peter 2:20; But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.

1 Peter 2:21; To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

1 Peter 2:24; He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

1 Peter 3:1; Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives,

1 Peter 3:7; Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.

1 Peter 3:12; For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.

1 Peter 3:15; But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,

1 Peter 3:16; keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.

1 Peter 3:18; For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit,

1 Peter 3:19; through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison

1 Peter 3:20; who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water,

1 Peter 4:1; Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin.

1 Peter 4:3; For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry.

1 Peter 4:4; They think it strange that you do not plunge with them into the same flood of dissipation, and they heap abuse on you.

1 Peter 4:5; But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

1 Peter 4:8; Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.

1 Peter 4:9; Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.

1 Peter 4:11; If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

1 Peter 5:6; Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

1 Peter 5:7; Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

1 Peter 5:8; Be self–controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

1 Peter 5:9; Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

1 Peter 5:10; And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

1 Peter 5:11; To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.

2 Peter 1:1; Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours:

2 Peter 1:2; Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.

2 Peter 1:3; His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

2 Peter 1:4; Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

2 Peter 1:5; For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness1 and to goodness, knowledge;

2 Peter 1:6; and to knowledge, self–control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness;

2 Peter 1:7; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.

2 Peter 1:8; For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 1:9; But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.

2 Peter 1:10; Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall,

2 Peter 1:11; and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

2 Peter 1:12; So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have.

2 Peter 1:13; I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body,

2 Peter 1:14; because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.

2 Peter 1:15; And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things.

2 Peter 1:16; We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

2 Peter 1:17; For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

2 Peter 1:18; We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.

2 Peter 1:19; And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

2 Peter 1:20; Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation.

2 Peter 1:21; For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

2 Peter 2:9; if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their punishment.

2 Peter 2:21; It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them.

2 Peter 3:8; But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

2 Peter 3:9; The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:15; Bear in mind that our Lord’s patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him.

2 Peter 3:16; He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.

2 Peter 3:17; Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position.

2 Peter 3:18; But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

"Praise God
for
His Holy Word,
Amen"
