Katie was a special person, and much can be said for her abilities in art, athletics, math and academics in general. The best way to get an understanding of Katie is to read from a school paper she wrote about herself. This will give you an appreciation for Katie and how she is best remembered.
Me
I was born on January 16 1984. My mom delivered me at Easley Baptist Hospital at 11:13p.m. My father named me Catherine, and my mother decided that Elizabeth would go well with Catherine. It just so happened that, Catherine Elizabeth was my grandmother's name. My parents are William and Lola Rowland, and I have two brothers, Will and Jeff. They are 25 and 24 years old. It was tough having adolescent older brothers, but one thing is for sure, it was never boring. I lived in Pickens until I turned eight years old, and then we moved to Liberty. I have never lived outside Pickens County, and I haven't even been out of Pickens County for more than a week at a time. My first memory of the world is when I was three, and it is the first memory I have of my aunt too. I was in the hospital with pneumonia. A nurse was taking my temperature, which wasn't too much fun, because while she did it, I was not able to talk on the phone with my aunt. While I was talking to her I remember thinking, who is this woman? I love life, and I am glad I am around to enjoy it.
I don't have many hobbies because with sports and school I don't have much time to do anything else. I love to run and watch movies. My favorite kind of movie is drama, and I really enjoy watching prison movies. I hate writing, but I don't mind reading a good book from time to time. I love building models of anything and everything. Once, I, along with two other people, built a bridge that held 37.5 pounds, and with another group at summer camp, I constructed a cardboard car that traveled 23 feet. I enjoy playing video games too. My favorite kind of video game is adventure. Talking on the phone and going places with my friends is the most exciting things I do, and there isn't anything else that I'd rather do either. When you get into trouble, it is always better to have a friend in it with you. Though, being with them is usually the fastest way I get into trouble, but at least I have fun doing it, and it is always worth it. The thing that I love to do the most is have fun.
The only other specialty training that I have had other than school is athletics. The sports that I am trained in are, volleyball, softball, cross country, and basketball, and before long I will have training in track too. I have spent hundreds of hours training for competition in each of these sports. I have always wanted to take piano lessons, but I have never had the time to. I think that I would enjoy the challenge of learning to play the piano.
I think that volunteering is something that you can do with your time. It helps you feel good about yourself, and it shows that you care about others. For the past two years I have volunteered to help Cannon Memorial Hospital nature trail. Every year at Halloween they pass out candy to kids. Helping with the trail is the only "real" volunteer job that I have had. Given the opportunity I would love to volunteer more, but I haven't really had the opportunity.
I have participated on numerous sports teams. They include; softball, cross-country, volleyball, and basketball. I've played softball for five years. From fifth grade to eight grades, I played for the rec. team. In ninth grade, I played for both the rec. and the JV high school team. This spring I have decided that I won't be playing softball for the high school. Instead, I am planning on running track, but I will still be playing softball for the rec. team. The sport I enjoy most would have to be basketball, and I have four years of experience in it. In sixth, seventh, eighth grade, I was on the rec. team. Last year, I played JV basketball for the high school. I have shot at the wrong goal two times. The first time, I made it, but missed the second time. That was last year when I played for the high school. I am planning on playing basketball for high school again this year, and I have hopes of making the varsity team. I am currently in my third season of volleyball. In eighth grade I played for Liberty Middle, and the past two years I have played for the high school. I am undecided whether I am going to continue playing volleyball, or if I am going to play tennis. I love volleyball, but also, I would like to have the experience of playing tennis. The sport that I find the most challenging is cross country. You have to constantly push yourself to keep going. It is 3.1 miles of pure pain and agony, and with every step, you have to tell yourself not to quit. At the beginning of every race, I think to myself that this is the last race. There's no way I am going to put myself through this again. By the end of the race, I am telling myself, this is great, and I feel great. I can't wait till the next race. Being involved in athletics has taught me a lot, and I have experienced many disappointments and many excitements, but I don't regret any of the hard work or the time that I have put into them. I feel like I am currently in the best shape of my life because of sports, and I feel great because of it.
I think that clubs are great, and I enjoy being in them. I am currently on the Math Team, and I have been on some sort of math team since fifth grade. In seventh and eighth grades, I was on the Beta Club. Also, in sixth grade I was in the WATCH Club. I was even in Girl Scouts my fifth grade year. Like sports Clubs help you to feel like you belong.
After I graduate from high school, I am planning to go to college. I am seriously considering going into some sort of military service at some point in the years following my high school graduation. I'm not sure which school I want to go yet, but it will be some school in South Carolina for sure. I think that Charleston would be a nice place to go to school, but I don't know for sure that it would be right for me. At this time, Clemson is even a possibility. I hope that where ever I go that I have as much fun there as I have had at Liberty High School.
I think that I would like majoring in chemical engineering. I love math, and I love solving problems. I wouldn't be dealing with the same boring stuff day after day, and I love the challenge of a good puzzle. I am planning on either being a chemical engineer or a structural engineer. I love designing things, and constructing them. It is going to be a hard decision to choose between a chemical engineer and a structural engineer.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and that is what everyone saw when they looked at Katie Rowland. It was seen in her tall, slender frame, which was accented with long, dark, curly hair and the charm of her youth. She had a witty, adventurous, and challenging personality to all who met her, and these attributes were especially seen in her natural talents as displayed in tennis, cross country, basketball, softball, and volleyball, which were her main physical interest, but other talents lurked in the background. She was a scholar in her studies, belonged to the Beta Club, very dependable, and she was a master in math from her youth. Her wit and creativity can be seen in a short story, The Life and death of Walley B., that she wrote for an English class. For another English class, she tells that she aspires to become a Civil Engineer after high school. She also wrote a book report, on The Crucible, that expresses her opinion of Peer Pressure. In a flash, in a twinkling of an eye, tragedy came to this bright, talented, young lady when the car she was driving ran off the shoulder of the road. After losing control of the car and wrecking, Katie was killed instantly on November 28, 2000. Some have tried to speculate how something like this could possibly happen, but the reason is unknown and will probably never be known. One thing that is known is that Katie was not wearing a seat belt when she lost control of her car.
The Bible says in James 4:14; that you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. The Bible also tells us in 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 that we will all be changed in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. Katie has gone from one world to another in a flash, in a twinkling of an eye, and she would probably beg you to click your seat beat before driving anywhere. She would not want any of her friends to experience what she has so early in their life. So please click it for Katie. To view pictures of her car Click Here
It seems that everyone, all of society, and even the movies we watch tell us that death is just a part of life; that everyone has to go through it like there is nothing to it. That is a lie of the devil. When a person dies, all their talents, skills, abilities, and intelligence leave this world to never return again; never, ever known again. It is true that death is part of life and everyone will have to go through it, but there is more to it than that. Life is not to be treated so frivolously; as being worthless. Death is the part of your life that is so absolutely final. Some say that there are no absolutes. Think about it. Any rational thinking person can see that it "is so absolutely final". It is the part of your life that ends all possibility to make a decision or change your mind about the most important thing that will affect you after you die; that is, your eternal destination. It's getting late, but it's not too late. It's not too late, but it's later than you think. Do you know for sure what your eternal destination is? If not, and you would like to know for sure Click it for Katie.
